Our first stops are a series of museums. We understand that museums (particularly museums about war) aren’t for everyone, so we’ve also included a lot of other options for your to pick and choose from for your day out.

Musée National d’Histoire Militaire

This museum details the experiences of soldiers and civilians during World War II. It has a special focus on the Battle of the Bulge and the Luxembourg Army, and includes life-size models of key events, historic clothes, artifacts, and written information in multiple languages (including English). Tickets are €5 for adults and €3 for students, and guided tours can be booked upon request.

Diekirch Brewery Beer Museum

A great stop if everyone in your party is old enough to drink (and enjoy) beer! This museum shows how Diekirch brewery, its products, and its marketing have developed over the last 100 years. Tickets are €5 for adults and €3 for groups.

National Museum for Historical Vehicles

If you’re interested in cars, then this is the museum for you! It features an extensive collection of historic cars and technology, several of which come from Luxembourg or surrounding countries. It’s located in Jean Wagner’s old car factory, which means it has historic connections to the car manufacturing industry. It’s also in the same building as the Beer Museum so it’s easy to combine the visits. Tickets are €5 for adults and €3 for children and students.

Musée d’Histoire(s) Diekirch

Our last museum might be the most interesting—it focuses on the history of Diekirch itself. For instance, did you know that a donkey is the town’s mascot? Here, you’ll be able to learn about Diekirch’s connection to Ancient Rome and see some interesting archaeologic and geologic discoveries. There are also lots of fun activities for the kids! Tickets are €5 for adults and free for both students and children under 12.

St. Laurentius Church

Not too far from the History Museum is St. Laurentius Church. The first building to occupy this spot was pre-Romanesque and built in the 6th or 7th century. In the 1200s, however, it was replaced by a Romanesque church, which is what you see today. Admission to the church is free so head inside to see some frescoes from the 16th and 17th centuries!

Pedestrian Zone/Grab a Bite

Our next few stops are a bit of a walk away (about 15 minutes), so we recommend grabbing a bite to eat before heading over! Diekirch was the first Luxembourg town to have a pedestrian zone, and it’s currently filled with lots of shops and restaurants. One of our favorites is 20Nove, an Italian restaurant with lots of vegetarian and vegan options! It’s also a wine bar/cellar (Art Divin) and Italian grocery shop! And for desert, we love Café Miche!

While in the pedestrian zone, keep an eye out for the donkey fountain! It sometimes flows with beer instead of water on special occasions.

Ciné Scala

Take a nice 14-minute walk to Ciné Scala and catch a movie! While many of their films are presented in German or French, you’re likely to be able to see an English version if you go later in the afternoon. This is a great way to get out of the sun for a bit or finally get to that movie you’ve been meaning to see! Tickets are €7.50 for adults and €6.50 for kids and students.

Nature Discovery Park

Our last stop is the Nature Discovery Park. Here, you can learn about the local animal and plant life, hear some natural bird songs, and meet Diekirch’s own donkeys! This is a great activity for the kids, and also a nice way to wind down after a busy day.
