Where to Stay
The Dutch
The Dutch is a hotel that is definitely one of its kind. Stay at this super trendy and fun self-service hotel. The Dutch is in an amazing location, within 5 minutes of the train station and less than 15 minutes from the center. The hotel includes free wifi, cool hangout spaces with games (foosball, checkers, etc), free fruits and water, free coffee and tea, bagged breakfast for 8.50 Euro, a self-service “honesty” bar, and an iconic decor. This is a super cool hotel where the price is definitely right!
What to Do:
Walking Tour
Sign up for one of Maastricht’s free walking tours! Upon your arrival, why not delve into the history of the city to learn about the long and interesting past of Maastricht. On the walk you will see the historical landmarks of Maastricht on the 90 minute English spoken tour. Time-slots for tours close 1 hour prior to the tour, but book in advance to make sure you secure your spot! If you are interested in seeing the landmarks, but would rather not do a guided tour, here is a link to a free self-guided tour.
Boat Tour
Cruise along the Maas on your second day! Book one of Maastricht’s river boat cruises for a relaxing ride and pretty views. There are a number of different cruises you can choose from including a dinner cruise, pancake cruise, brunch cruise, etc. The boat itself is charming and has a beautiful interior with friendly an accommodating staff members, you won’t want to miss this! (PS: Their hot chocolate is a must try!)
North Caves
Did you know that humans created a cave system underneath the city of Maastricht? Find out why and how they created these caves on a tour of the North Caves. We personally had never been in caves before and were amazed by the vastness and history of the North Caves. The tour is about an hour long and only costs 8.5 Euros for adults and 6.95 for children.
Museum of Illusions
This museum is made to play tricks on your mind. Check out the museum of Illusions before you head back to Luxembourg to have your mind blown. At the museum you can take part in the illusions and take lots of pictures! Make a reservation to secure your tickets and listen to the instructions from staff upon arrival. Hopefully you won’t be stuck there for hours trying to solve one of their puzzles!
