Escape: Nutchel Forest Village Alsace

Nutchel is a unique European slow tourism concept that was founded in 2018. They offer short stays in their CosyCabins, which are located in the middle of nature. Nutchel is all about going back to basics, and escaping the busy lives we all lead. A stay at Nutchel is not just about staying in a cabin, it’s about living the Nutchel experience.

On arrival we were greeted by the most friendly staff member who made sure we would make the most of our time. She explained all of the activities available on the premises, and the list is long- from the saunas and a cold plunge, to biking and hiking, star gazing, and more- to everything we needed to make our stay easy and comfortable. She also let us know we could enjoy free coffee and tea all day long on their beautiful terrace with incredible views on the surrounding forests. We had everything we needed from the very first hello.

After check-in, we found our cabin, which was clearly designed with a lot of attention and care. We were welcomed with smores kits, a bottle of local wine and an incredible activity book with tons of tips to enjoy not only the Nutchel experience but also the area around. The book is filled with creative ideas for spending time in nature (for kids and adults), crafts, yoga poses, hiking and biking trails, day trips and even recipes you can easily make in your cabin. Speaking of food, you of course can bring your own groceries- this is no issue, but we would highly recommend ordering some meals from Nutchel. They offer 3 different types of breakfast baskets, a BBQ basket and a Munster Cheese basket; each one is really delicious and full of fresh local ingredients. Having the baskets made our days even more stress-free. The portions are really generous so we even found ourselves having leftovers for snacks and even our entire last meal was made from what was remaining.

Each cabin is lighted with oil lamps, candles and just a few strings of twinkle lights which immediately creates a warm and intimate atmosphere. We found ourselves naturally switching off our electronics and just taking time to breathe. You warm your cabin with a wood stove and cook your meals on that same stove or using your cabin’s BBQ. The bed was incredibly comfortable- in fact, the weekend we stayed at Nutchel I had the best sleep I’d had in months. Even if everything is back to the basics, we never felt like we were missing anything. We were lucky to have a CosyCabin with our own hot tub which was perfect for unwinding and relaxing after a long hike in the forests- we definitely recommend taking this option.

If you are looking for a unique relaxing weekend away or love the idea of rediscovering the simple things in life, we cannot recommend Nutchel Forest Village enough.

Nutchel currently has 2 forest villages, one in Alsace, France (Plaine), and one in the Belgian Ardennes (Martelange). Both villages are near Luxembourg (Les Ardennes 40 minutes away & Alsace 2.5h) making it a perfect destination for people living in Luxembourg to enjoy this perfect escape in nature.
