Greece (TO UPDATE) but a good idea
One of my favorite countries to visit is Greece. A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to go to Athens, Greece for the perfect Greek getaway. At around 250 euros for a round trip flight from Luxembourg, Athens is not a city to miss.
From the food to the history to the traditional shops and markets, Greece is the perfect vacation spot for everyone. I recommend you begin your visit with a trip to the Acropolis and the Acropolis museum. A tip for European students- if you show a valid school ID, you will receive half price discounts on many attractions. The museum showcases many artifacts from the Acropolis and an educational, but fun, experience.
From the Acropolis you can see the theatre of Dionysus which is considered the world’s first theatre. For a break from history, take a visit to the Plaka. The Plaka is an old neighborhood in Athens and is filled with intertwining streets, shops, and restaurants. Here you will find some of the most beautiful leather goods from handbags to sandals.
Tucked away under the Acropolis is one of my favorite Greek restaurants called Cave of the Acropolis. There is live music, dancing, and a spectacular view of the Acropolis lit up at night.
Another must-see attraction of Athens is the changing of the guards in Syntagma Square. This happens every Sunday morning at 11 and is a proud part of Greek history. Following this visit, I recommend you see the Olympic stadium of Athens. This was the site of the first modern Olympics in 1896 and is a major tourist attraction.
While you’re out and about, don’t forget to treat yourself to some traditional baklava!
Greece also hosts large markets daily like Monastiraki. You never know what you will find at these markets and vendors are always up for some bargaining!
Everywhere you walk in the city will captivate you with beauty and history! You can not go wrong with a trip to Athens!
