The Luxembourg Scoop-Where to Eat Ice Cream

Pick 1 – Bonomeria – Gelateria Artigianale

This Italian ice cream parlour in Belair is a top pick at CSL; the gelato here is divine. Besides the wide variety of flavours, you can find various ice cream treats to take home (we often take these treats to parties and they’re a big hit). If you decide to replace a meal with ice cream one day, we suggest the gelato stuffed brioche. If you have kids, another plus is the strikingly close distance to the fabulous Castle Parc.

Good for: making you think you’ve briefly landed in Italy.

Where: 4 Rue Wurth-Paquet, Belair (map)Opening hours: Monday-Sunday 12pm to 8pmWebsite

Pick 2 – Mammamia

You’ll find Mammamia in the Opkorn mall in Differdange. We happened upon this place after doing a bit of shopping at Auchan and were highly impressed. The staff was so friendly and the ice cream was out of this world. If you’re in the area, we definitely suggest giving this place a try!

Good for: a pre- or post-shopping treat!

Pick 3 – Glacier Bargello
Bargello in the Gare (located next to Bastelkiste craft shop). You’ll find ice creams, sorbets, frozen yoghurts, patisseries, and more!

Good for: relaxing on the terrace with a refreshing treat.

Where: 13-15 rue du Fort Elisabeth, Luxembourg/ 131 Avenue du Bois, Limpertsberg/1 rue Charles Kieffer, Grass (Inside Kirsch). You can also pick up their treats at Cactus, the City Concorde, and the Pall Center (Strassen and Steinsel).Opening hours: Monday-Thursday 12pm to 9pm, Friday-Sunday 11am to 9pmWebsite

Pick 4 – Veneziano

You’ll find this ice cream parlour on Place d’Armes with its colourful and irresistible displays. Don’t be put off by the crowds, it’s worth the wait and if you can get a seat at one of their outdoor tables it’s the perfect place for some people watching.

Good for: milkshakes, we especially love the raspberry vanilla combination

Where: 1 Place d’Armes, Luxembourg Opening hours: Monday-Friday 11am to 7pm, Saturday 11am to 8pm, Sunday 11am to 7pmWebsite

Pick 5 – SmooJo

SmooJo markets itself as a smoothie and juice bar, so you can indulge without the guilt! If you haven’t already discovered SmooJo, the healthy(ish) alternative to ice cream, then make this one your next stop and indulge in some delicious frozen yoghurt in a wide and interesting variety of flavours. In fact, SmooJo is so popular they have a second location (in Esch).

Good for: not just frozen yoghurt, try the tastiest ice coffee drinks this side of the pond.

Where: 11c, Avenue de la Porte-Neuve L-2227 LuxembourgOpening hours: Tuesday-Sunday 10am to 6pmWebsite

Pick 6 – Oberweis

Oh Oberweis! How we love you. So classy, so delicious, so Luxembourgish. As with their coffees, pastries and cakes, their ice cream does not disappoint. Whilst there are 5 Oberweis cafes around Luxembourg selling ice cream (Cloche d’Or, Lux Ville, City Concorde, Kirchberg and Gare), we suggest you treat yourself and head for their beautiful flagship cafe in the city centre.

Good for: tartes glacées – yes, that really does mean ice cream tarts. Oh my.

Where: 16 Grand-Rue, Luxembourg Opening hours: Monday-Saturday 7:45am to 6pm (you can find other locations with opening times here)Website

Pick 7 – Gelateria Franky

This is a great place to get real Italian ice cream! Choose anything from classic to seasonal flavors, you’ll always leave happy!

Pick 8 – NÏCE Ice cream

This fantastic place is the product of 4 Luxembourgish friends’ passion for ice cream. You’ll find this ice cream parlour with modern design in the Belair neighbourhood. They offer many interesting flavours of ice cream and sorbet made from fresh ingredients. They also serve a mean cup of coffee! We love that they offer a daily vegan flavor!!

This fantastic gelato was created by the Luxembourgish hotel group Goeres! The gelato is homemade by the group’s pastry chefs, trained in Italy at the Gelato University of Carpigiani. All the ice cream is made in their workshop in Luxembourg City from Luxembourgish milk products!

This City Center gelato shop doesn’t have the largest variety of flavours, but what you’ll find is truly authentic gelato.
