Mosconi

On the banks of the Alzette sits Mosconi, a restaurant that has just earnt its second Michelin star and which will make you look at Italian food in a whole new light. What makes Mosconi head and shoulders above its Mediterranean counterparts lies in their emphasis on the authentic. Elegant and simple, the dishes will marry three or four products together.

The decor is also refined and classic, with white and cream colours contrasting with sumptuous velvet seating and magnificent chandeliers.

La Cristallerie

Overlooking the Place d'Armes, this intimate yet sumptuous setting can seat 40 guests within its two seating areas. Traditional in both decor and food, you can enjoy the freshest seasonal produce under sculpted ceilings and stained glass windows. Authentic, refined and with generous portions, La Cristallerie is a great place to take visitors and you can even treat them to a stay at the Place d'Armes Hotel, within which the restaurant is housed. The wine list is mainly taken from the Rhone Valley, so don't expect any new world specialties though!

La Distillerie

The restaurant "La Distillerie" at Bourglinster castle offer a cuisine of gastronomic delights in a century-old setting. Chef René Mathieu has had his Michelin star since 2012 and was elected 'Chef of the Year' in 2010 in Luxembourg by the Gault Millau guide. He adds a personal touch to the dishes that makes every course special.

La Gaichel

Want to dine where Xavier Bettel had his wedding breakfast? Set in the heart of the countryside, the beauty of the food is matched by the beauty of your surroundings. Seasonal dishes include a whole Nantes duck glazed with thyme honey and our favourite, the 'chocolate trilogy'. Gudden Appetitt!

Léa Linster

Only 10km from the city, yet set in a rural idyll, Luxembourg's most well known chef, Léa Linster, offers the total experience in her upmarket restaurant. You can enjoy sumptuous classic dishes in a classy setting that feels light and spacious - even in the grey winter days! Eclectic is not the key, but you are guaranteed delicate and beautiful flavors on your palate. Léa Linster walks around the restaurant taking time to chat to each guest and you can sense she has a real passion for ensuring you enjoy the whole experience.

Patin d'Or

Under new owners, the Patin d'Or has revisited old classics and signature dishes and added new flavours to add a touch of diversity. The seafood dishes, in particular, are wonderful, whilst the wine list boasts some relatively unknown vintages to surprise you.

Less romantic than some other options, the decor is set to impress business colleagues and there is a private room available. The terrace is available in summer.

Clairefontaine

Traditional, centrally located with friendly services, Clairefontaine is a favourite with couples looking to celebrate a special occasion in the heart of the city. Set in one room, the atmosphere is intimate whilst the food is some of the best in Luxembourg.

Guillou Campagne

Modern, not to say, trendy, this is still a down-to-earth restaurant offering French and Luxembourgish cuisine with cheerful service. There are not many options on the menu, but it changes frequently and what is offered is excellent. The €35 lunch menu will have you clapping your hands at the value. Outdoor seating is available.

Ma Langue Sourit

An undisputed favourite for locals; Ma Langue Sourit boasts impeccable food with pairings that surprise you and an extensive wine list. The discovery menu is recommended for first-timers; a treat for the senses. Expensive, but worth every bite.

Toit pour Toi

A restored farmhouse with a duck pond makes for a relaxed setting with an open kitchen so you can see Katell Guillou working her magic for you. Boasting a vertical rotisserie, beautiful fireplace and an ancient well, the atmosphere is magical. 

Food-wise, don't expect experimental cooking; this is good provinical cuisine, well-presented and with friendly service.

Favaro

Renato Favaro, appointed Chef of the Year in 2012 by Gault et Millau, claims his expertise was learnt at his mother's side. It feels slightly like a hotel; there's not the same attention to surroundings as there is to the food, but the service is fantastic from the reception by Renato's wife to the personal attention of the man himself.

Innovative and fun, the cuisine is mainly Mediterranean so expect exceptional pasta, bread, seafood and garlic. Worth travelling for.
