Underrated Beach Towns in Europe!

Dreaming of a sun-soaked holiday far from the hustle and bustle of big cities? Next time you plan a trip, why not add one of these hidden gems to your itinerary—or better yet, plan an entire getaway around it? From secluded coves to pristine sandy shores, these destinations are perfect for travelers craving both relaxation and adventure.

If you’re looking for a more peaceful escape, we’ve got you covered! Here’s a list of five lesser-known European beaches that offer breathtaking scenery, charming coastal towns, and a chance to truly unwind:

Le Grau-du-Roi, France

  • Le Grau du Roi is an idyllic Mediterranean resort on the edge of the Camargue Regional Park.

  • It is 20 minutes away from the Montpellier airport.

  • The renowned seaside resort of Le Grau-du-Roi owes its fame to its picturesque fishing port, beautiful fine sand beaches, and huge harbor for leisure boats.

Sopot, Poland

  • Sopot is a seaside resort city in Pomerelia on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea in northern Poland, with a population of approximately 40,000.

  • The smallest of the Trójmiasto (Tri-Cities), the Baltic Sea spa town of Sopot is smack between Gdansk and Gdynia, just a few miles from each.

  • It is one of the most well-known Polish seaside resorts and is famous for its festivals organized in the Forest Opera (Opera Leśna).

Carvoeiro, Portugal

  • Carvoeiro is a picturesque and traditional Portuguese resort town with a stunning coastline of golden beaches and dramatic natural scenery.

  • It rests in a small town in the Algarve which is very close to Lagoa and just a 50-minute drive from Faro Airport.

  • Note that during the summer months, it's very busy with tourists and may be overcrowded.

Sakarun beach, Croatia

  • Sakarun, one of the most famous beaches of Zadar County, is located on the northwest coast of Dugi Otok island.

  • The beach gained its reputation with the whiteness of the sand and clean sea, surrounded by pine trees that provide a welcome shade in the summer.

  • Sakarun Beach is sometimes called the Caribbean of the Adriatic.

Cala Sardinera, Costa Blanca, Spain

  • Cala Sardinera is only accessible by foot, the Mirador de la Cruz del Portitxol, or by sea.

  • It is a virgin and natural cove, with no services whatsoever.

  • The beach is made of stones, not sand, so wear protective shoes.

From the Mediterranean to the Baltic, these coastal destinations each offer a unique seaside charm. Whether it's the vibrant fishing port of Le Grau-du-Roi, the pristine sands of Sakarun Beach, or the untouched beauty of Cala Sardinera, each location provides an unforgettable experience for travelers seeking sun, sea, and natural beauty.
